The English monarchy of the Regency Period, and understanding its flow, allows a vision into the politic climate of Jane Austen's time.

The flow chart below showcases the Royal Genealogy of the British Crown before, during and after Jane Austen's lifetime. You will note that King George IV was Prince Regent before claiming the throne from his father, King George III. The flowchart concludes with both Prince William and Prince Harry to serve as a contemporary reference. Jane Austen (1775-1817) lived through the American Revolution (1775-1783) as well as the War of 1812 (1812-1815) in terms of the British relationship to the colonies / United States.
