Jane Austen is a well known and much-loved English author. Her fans today number in the millions and since the advent of motion pictures, her novels have been turned into film at an almost regular pace. Although only six novels were published, those few works have become the model for true romance stories since the early 1800's.
Today, Jane Austen is as popular as ever and revered as much as any literary figure in history. This site is a testament to her works, her life and her particular understanding of the world she lived in.
This color-enhanced piece* is based on a work completed by Evert Duyckinck in 1873 which itself is based on the famous Austen drawing by Jane's sister Cassandra. *Colorized by JaneAusten.org. No reproduction without permission.
